Prisoners

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against powers and principles and patterns of thought.
We happy prisoners
Fixed on shadow dancers
And mixed-up images
But oh let loose the chains
The freed may be the least of all
Under the burden of vision
Because what prisoner cares to hear about the world outside from one who shared his shackles?
And what cave ever brightened by a vivid description of sunlight?
Who among us would consent to leaving our homes for a dreamland fairytale make-believe?
Newton said "an object at rest tends to stay at rest."
Well, I think the same for hearts, and minds, and souls and spirits, vigors and humours, whatever gears tick inside us.
But oh, how blessed that "tends to" is not "will always", and pioneers will prevail on every frontier, and every frontier's frontier.
And they will return, for they were once prisoners too.
